Saddle Up and Ride the Carousel Circuit

Memorial Day to Labor Day

(BINGHAMTON- NY) Memorial Day weekend kicks off another carousel season for our unique collection of antique carousels. Sponsored by the Susquehanna Heritage Area and Broome County, this summer marks the sixteenth consecutive year for the “Ride the Carousel Circuit” program. This one-of-a-kind activity draws thousands of carousel riders to our area parks each summer.

It’s easy to complete the CAROUSEL CIRCUIT and receive a special “jeweled” button…all you need to do is take one ride on each of the FIVE local carousels before Labor Day.   Although we have six antique carousels in the Greater Binghamton area, the C. Fred Johnson Park carousel in Johnson City is CLOSED FOR THE SEASON due to renovations. Not to worry, riding FIVE this year will still entitle you to receive the “I RODE THE CAROUSEL CIRCUIT” button after collecting the special cards (each carousel has an individual color) from a park attendant at each carousel site. When you have collected all five, any of the parks will validate your cards and present you with a commemorative “I RODE THE CAROUSEL CIRCUIT” button.

You can take all summer to ride the Carousel Circuit or complete it all in the same day….just saddle up and enjoy the rides! Remember that riding the Carousel Circuit is FREE just like all of our carousels are. For more information on these historic carousels and their locations pick up a “carousel” brochure at the Binghamton Visitor Center (30 Front St.), the Endicott Visitor Center (300 Lincoln Ave.) or go to the Greater Binghamton Convention & Visitors Bureau website at www.visitbinghamton.org. There is also a “Ride the Carousel Circuit 2009” Guide that is available to download on that website.

For more information on the restoration of the C. Fred Johnson Park carousel enclosure contact the Johnson City Dept of Public Works at 757-3031.
